I have been making bowls this week. I throw about 12 to 15, then let them dry for 24 hours. Next I invert each one and place it back on the wheel to trim the foot. The clay feels like the consistency of cheese at this point, like cheddar or pepper jack (not brie or goat cheese, they are too soft). I use a sharp trim tool to take away the excess clay on the bottoms of the bowls.

Six Plates and Saucers

I have a few commission orders, so I have started the new year working on these pieces. Thankfully these customers are very patient and are willing to work with me on my sporadic firings. I generally rent the wood kiln at Cedar Creek in Creedmoor every 3 or 4 months. It looks like my next firing will be sometime in March. I need to coordinate the exact date with those who help me fire the kiln.
